Welcome to the health office at Center School. I am very excited to be working with your families as the Center School Nurse.

If you have any concern please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me. I want the best for your children and want you to feel secure in their health and safety at school.

My goal for every child is to help them to stay healthy so that they are able to attend school every day. I do my best to make sure every child feels heard in their complaint, has a quality assessment, and is comfortable in their outcome. I will call home in the following scenarios:

  • The student needs to be picked up from school

  • Follow-up at home is required or recommended (ie doctor visit, continued observation at home, etc)

  • Any injury resulting in a mark to the face or that which may cause parent concern at first sight

  • Further communication is needed regarding student Health Office visit

Please note that the above criteria are made with Registered Nurse assessment, observation, and judgement. If a parent would like calls for any nurse visit or in specific situations, they must specifically communicate that to the Health Office.

Attendance is a critical part of education. However, as we all know, there are times when a child is injured or too sick to attend school. If you take your child to their physician due to illness or injury, please obtain a note from their doctor, including any restrictions. You can give the note to the Main Office staff. Documentation is an important step in tracking attendance.

Throughout the year I will be doing several types of state mandated screenings which include vision and hearing for all students and scoliosis screenings for 5th grade girls only. You will be notified prior to screenings via an article in our weekly newspaper. You may opt your child out of any or all of these screenings by contacting me.

Celebrations are an important part of childhood. I strongly encourage non-food items to share with classes when celebrating birthdays. If you choose to send in a food item, it must be store bought and the content label must be attached. Many students are living with life threatening allergies (i.e. nut/tree nut/dairy/soy/fruit) and we do our utmost to limit their exposure to anything that may negatively impact their health.

Medications: Every medication that is brought into school requires a “Medication Authorization” form to be signed by the student’s doctor and parent/guardian. No child may carry their own medications at the Elementary level. A link to the district health forms page can be found on the left side of this page.

Please note: COUGH DROPS are considered medications and are not allowed in school unless the appropriate documentation is completed. For the complete policy, please see the Cough Drop Policy section to the left.
